Knowing me, of course, I could not let that happen. Man O’War is a beautiful winery in New Zealand that has all kinds of wines from Blanc to Blanc to Rose to Cabernet Sauvignon.

Today we have the Man O’ War Dreadnought, which is their Syrah. The name comes from the first line of battle ships that had the motto “fear god and dread nought.” I got this in a deal from Underground Cellar and as a reminder if you click the link we both get referral credit.

Now on to the wine, here are the tasting notes from the winery’s website:

So how was it?

Color – Deep dark red.

Nose – Smoked meat and leather.

Taste – Black cherry, black pepper, and dark chocolate.

Finish – Long with medium to high acid and bold high tannins.

Overall, this wine is good full-bodied complex wine and what more could you ask for. The mouth feel was nice and velvety and this would rival most Australian Syrah. I have very few complaints about this wine. Good job New Zealand and after looking at their line up, it makes me want to visit.
