Screen Shot 2015-01-14 at 1.18.35 PMA winemaker always says that they are only as good as the fruit in the vineyard. It is interesting to think that you could be the best winemaker in the world and make a wine that is not that great because of the fruit. It also creates a lot of pressure that if you get great fruit all you can do is screw it up or keep it perfect.

I know at one of our favorite local wineries Keswick Vineyards that they have an estate Chardonnay that I will be trying soon that the winemaker said the fruit came out very well and fermented naturally. I did not realize that they would also put out another Chardonnay. The 2013 Keswick Vineyards Les Vents d’Anges Chardonnay is a wine that is a tribute to the owner’s sister.

Tasting Notes:

Lighter in body, this wine exhibits aromas and flavors of yellow fruits, coconut, and vanilla, all complimented by a vibrant acidity.

Barrel Ageing:

American and French barrel maturation.

Maturation:

Meant for early consumption,  this wine will still continue to mature over the next 1-2 years.

So how was it?

Color – Pale golden yellow.

Nose – Tropical fruits and a hint of vanilla bean.

Taste – Little evervescent, lemon, vanilla again, and slight minerality.

Finish – Clean with medium to high acid. Not buttery.

Overall, this is a pretty decent Chardonnay. I love most of the wines that come from this winery so I think I judge a little harder but this one was not my favorite. When you pour the wine it looks like it bubbles a little bit and even in taste has a slight Champagne flavor to it. The flavors were good but the mouth feel threw me off a little.
