I know, it is a crime, but when you only have 10 days and dry Rose’s have been popping up everywhere, it was Rose for lunch and Red for dinner. To make myself feel better, when we got home I opened up a bottle of 2010 Chateau de Chantegrive Graves Blanc. This wine is a equal 50/50 blend of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc. I hope my consumption of this gets me forgiveness from the French wine gods.

According to their tasting notes:

This wine is completely vinified in stainless steel tanks and aged no its lees for six months, to preserve the intense fruit flavors of good white Graves.

With it’s brilliant pale-yellow color and delicious aromas of acacia flowers, honeysuckle and peaches, this wine has personality and charm. Flavors of stoney white peach shine through this wine, giving it a personality and taste that pairs nicely with a range of cuisine. It finishes quite dry with mineral notes, typical of wines of this region.

So how was it?

Color – Pale Light Yellow.

Nose – Lemon and citrus but with a lot of minerality.

Taste – Light lemon tart. I did not get peach as it describes. It is surprisingly earthy with those minerals still showing through.

Finish – Medium finish with low acid. Lingers pretty good for a white wine.

Overall, this is a very good white Bordeaux. I really like the minerality and have never had a wine quite like that before. It didn’t blow me away in complexity but it had a nice flavor that went well with the Tilapia that my wife fixed. I highly recommend this wine to anyone who likes mineral flavors with a little bit of lemon.
