For most people when the weather gets warm, they start pulling out the white wine. We decided to do the same the other day with one of our favorite local wines, Delaplane Cellars 2012 Barrel Fermented Chardonnay.
Their website is nice but they either are selling different wines online versus the tasting room or they haven’t updated. The important part to take away from their website is that the view is truly beautiful like it shows there. Hands down, this winery is at least in the top 3 at best tasting room views in Virginia.
We also enjoy their wine enough to join their wine club. With their wine club, you get access to their loft that is wine members only. This is really great because they stay so busy with the view and wine that it is hard to find a seat. They also serve food here and it is very delicious. They have local cheeses and breads and you also get discounts on those.
The other really great benefit to their wine club is that they have a whole list of wines that are available by the bottle. This list has gotten shorter since we have been members but we hope to see it go back up.
So how is the wine?
Color – Golden bright.
Nose – Citrus and butter.
Taste – Vanilla, Citrus and some floral flavors as well.
Finish – Lingers in feel. It has light acid and a little bit of tartness.
Overall, a good Chardonnay from a good Virginia winery. If you like Chardonnay, you will love this. It really has some nice flavors and is refreshing enough for a warm spring day.
