In full disclosure, I can tell you that this winemaker is about 90 percent of the reason I am into wine. When I first turned 21, my family and I went to a wine festival a month later. We all fell in love with Gabriele’s wine and especially his reds. This brings us to the 2011 Gabriele Rausse Chardonnay that I purchased at his house back in September.

Without a tasting room and a website, though rumors say ‘coming soon,’ we only have a different website to go off:

“Pale lemon gold color with a mild mineral fruit palette, good underlying acidity.  A well-balanced, enjoyable wine.  A super value in a bright, clean, fruit driven chardonnay.”

So does the wine legend live up to all the hype?

Color – Pure gold.

Nose – Butter and lemon.

Taste – Bold flavor, little acid, and lots of tart fruit. Maybe a hint of oak.

Finish – Lingers like a good red wine. Fill the mouth and keeps on going.

Overall, very good chardonnay. It stands out from the crowd and is bold and bright unlike any others. It breathes Virginia white wine and will not let you go until the very end. And you will be wanting more.

Rating: A
